Proper Use of PPE / Behavior Based Safety Observation
Proper Use of PPE / Behavior Based Safety Observation

Purpose of the Course
The proper personal protective equipment (PPE) can mean the difference between an employee going home at the end of the shift to enjoy their life, or them going to the emergency room during their shift and having a lifelong effect on their quality of life, or worse. By instructing all new employees of the importance of wearing the proper PPE within their first few days of employment and before they go on to the production floor can develop the habit of always wearing the proper protection. This can then lead to a safer and more safety-conscious workforce. By expanding the training to include safety observations the employee will develop an eye for safety. With this tool they can help everyone in the workplace view safety as a priority. Which will in turn lower incident rates. With fewer incidents, there will be a lower cost for workers' compensation insurance premiums.
Audience Description
Target audience is all new direct hire and staffing employees starting at company ABC. Secondary audience will include all employees (Trained annually).
Major Course Objectives (Terminal)
· The Learner will choose proper personal protective equipment for the task being completed
· Through observation be able to notice proper use of PPR, safe working choices, and conditions
Course Enabling Objectives
Terminal Objective: The learner will choose proper personal protective equipment
1.Given the work instructions for the daily task the learner will choose, Inspect and don the proper PPE. (Conative Domain – Analyzing)
2.Given PPE in different states of repair the learner will choose PPE in proper working condition. (Conative Domain – Evaluating)
3.Once the working PPE has been properly chosen inspected correctly the learner will don the PPE. (Conative Domain – Applying)
Terminal Objective: Through observation be able to notice proper use of PPE, safe working choices, and conditions.
1.When observing another learner working safely identify the safe working condition, habit, or task. The learner will be able to discuss this in a non-confrontational manner. (Affective Domain – Internalizing)
2.When observing another learner working, notice unsafe working conditions, habits, or choices.
3.When the learner addresses the observed it will be in a non-confrontational manner. (Affective Domain – Valuing)
4.The learner will start the conversation using a positive element from the observation. (Affective Domain – Valuing)
5.The learner will address any negative elements from the observation by using the possible injury, illness, or property damage that could happen. During the conversation the learner never gets personal. (Affective Domain – Valuing)
6.At the end of the conversation the learner ends with thanking the observed. (Affective Domain – Valuing)

Learning Assessment for Course
There will be a formal assessment at the end; The assessment will be pass fail. This will be completed by short answer, fill in the blank, and multiple-choice quiz along with demonstrations of observations and conversations.
Learning Assessment for RLO
The RLO element of the course will be completed through a scenario base assessment. The learner will receive the scenario and be supplies with possible responses with the stated possible of each response.
